April 2009 Scholarship Opportunities
Loring Family Hospice Graduating Senior Scholarship
Loring Family Hospice is again offering a scholarship geared
toward individuals that are interested in the health care,
ministry or human services (social work, psychology, etc.)
fields. Three scholarships will be offered for $500 each. Two
being awarded to individuals graduating from the
East
Sac County High School and the other awarded to someone with in a
surrounding school district for students residing within Sac
County. See Guidance Office for an application.

Keep
Iowa
Beautiful Environmental Scholarship
Through the leadership of Bob Byers, Keep Iowa Beautiful’s (KIB)
Litter-Free School Campus program was initiated in northwest Iowa
in 2003. In memory of bob and his dedication to our organization,
KIB and the Byers family have established the Robert E. Byers
Scholarship Fund within the Keep Iowa Beautiful Endowment Fund.
We are excited to offer two, $250 scholarships to
Iowa
high school seniors for the first time in 2009. Students across
Iowa enrolling in an Iowa college or university to major in
community enhancement or environmental areas of study are
eligible. Applications are available online at

Ivan F. and Deloris M. Hunter Endowment Fund Scholarship
All high school seniors in school districts of the following
counties: Buena Vista, Calhoun, Greene, Hamilton, Humboldt,
Pocahontas, Sac, Webster and Wright, and those centering their
education on agriculture, soil conservation, and/or environmental
studies are invited to apply. Applications can be picked up in
the Guidance Office. Application deadline is
April 10, 2009.
Ringheim Scholarship –
Iowa
State University
The Iowa Gamma chapter of Phi Delta Theta at Iowa State University
is pleased to announce the creation of a scholarship that is open
to all incoming male freshman to Iowa State University. Phi Delta
Theta was founded on three cardinal principles: Sound Learning,
moral Rectitude and Friendship. We are seeking young men that
exemplify the three cardinal principles of our fraternity and
highly encourage any incoming male freshman to apply for our
scholarship. Going Greek is not a requirement to apply for this
scholarship, anyone can win! See Guidance Office for an

2009 February Scholarship Opportunities
Charlie Burkart Scholarship
The Iowa section of the PGA annually awards a college scholarship
in memory of Charlie Burhart, PGA member for 48 years and head
professional at the Elmhearst Country Club in Cedar Rapids for 47
years. Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their
interest and activity in golf and the potential for future
contributions to the game, then on their academic ability and

In celebration of
Simpson
College’s 150th year anniversary in 2010, the

Bradley University
Is pleased to announce the Neighbor State Grant specifically for
students from Iowa. Beginning the fall of 2009, the Neighbor
State Grant will provide $4,000 annually to any Iowa resident who

Ogden Memorial Scholarship
The family of Bart Ogden established this scholarship in his
memory and to honor not only his many years of service to the
Odebolt-Arthur Schools as Superintendent, but his continued
interest in the school system long after his retirement.
Applicants will be asked to respond to a question selected by
Bart's family. The response has to be anonymous, do not
include name or where you will be attending college. Please be
sure it is done neatly and without error. At the top of the sheet

- Chapter CB of the P.E.O. Sisterhood of Ida Grove is again
offering a college scholarship to an
Ida County HS senior girl
graduating this year who plans to further her education at a

school. Students may apply who are in the upper 50% of their

Ruth Parks Nursing Scholarship
A scholarship in the name of Ruth Parks is available to graduating
seniors planning to enter the field of nursing. United Bank of
Iowa
distributes this scholarship. Contact the United Bank of Iowa -
Ida Grove's Trust Office to receive an application - 712/364-3393,

Warren and Arlene Hansen Scholarship
In honor of Arlene Hanson, who was an Odebolt High School Physical
Education and Health teacher from 1935-1937and Warren Lowell
Hanson, a 1930 graduate of OHS and life-long area farmer, their
family has established this scholarship. Students are required to
be enrolled at an approved postsecondary educational institution.
Two scholarships will be given to students in their final year of
schooling.

One scholarship will be given to a career prioritized as listed
in descending order 1. Teaching with a P.E. major; 2. Teaching
in high school, middle school or elementary school; other
teaching as approved by committee; 4. Nursing degree (4 year and
3year); 5. Physician’s assistant program; 6. Other health care
disciplines (therapists, x-ray technician, and dental
technician. The chiropractic degree is excluded from this
scholarship.

One scholarship will be given to a student with an enrollment in
a career in an Agricultural related discipline such as Farm
Operations, Agronomy, Ag Econ, Veterinary Medicine, Vog Ag
Teacher, Ag Engineering, etc. Also 2 year or fewer disciplines
qualify for this scholarship such as Ag Mechanics, Diesel
Mechanics, etc.

The
Chester and
Lorraine Thevenot Scholarship
– The family of Chet and Lorraine would like to offer this
scholarship to two students who share similar goals that the
Thevenots' had for their children. It was their wish for each of
their children to go through the ranks of the school system with
very simple but important goals in mind: that each learn to become
responsible and independent citizens, while maintaining honesty
and integrity in all situations encountered in their lifetimes.

Please pick up an application if you or one of your parents is a

Masonic-Eastern Star Scholarship
Sac City Masonic/Eastern Star offers scholarships to seniors in
the area to help meet the cost of furthering their education. See

“Haley’s Hope” Scholarship
This scholarship is being established in 2007 in memory of Duane
Haley. Duane was a farmer who raised cattle for 50 years in
Sac
County. He took a great deal of pride in his chosen career and
the cattle industry. His family would like to award a $250
scholarship to an individual meeting the following requirements –
senior boy/ girl living in Sac county, member of FFA/4-H, plans to
pursue a 2-year, or 4-year post-secondary education. See H.S.

Trent Godbersen Scholarship Award-
This scholarship is being established in memory of Trent Godbersen.
Trent was a member of the class of 2009. Trent was exploring his
options of higher education in a 2-year, 4-year or vocational
school. Trent held a special interest in agriculture and diesel
mechanics. His interests will be given first priority. See High

Thelma Dresselhuis Scholarship,
Building Character Throughout Your Lifetime
A $2000 cash award
Thelma was an avid traveler throughout her life and it was her
goal to learn as much as she possibly could on these adventures.
To apply, submit an essay answering the following question.
If you were given a chance to travel anywhere in the world, where
would you go and why? Please limit your answer to a typed,

American Legion Auxiliary Citizenship Award
The American Legion Auxiliary will be awarding a Citizenship Award
to one senior girl on Senior Award’s Day. This award includes
your behaviors both in school and outside of school.
To be considered a candidate for this award, please compile a list
in fifty (50) words or less of the ways you have demonstrated
outstanding citizenship during your high school years. Emphasis
on how you have made a difference to the community is
important. Deadline is Friday, April 3, 2009 Return to

American Red Cross Blood Services Making a Difference Educational
Scholarship Program.
Through the Making a Difference Educational Scholarship Program.
High school students have the opportunity to help others, while
also helping to establish a college scholarship fund to benefit
students in their school. This program is available to high
schools that agreed to add one additional blood drive. Criteria
for this scholarship are set by representatives from the local
school. The Red Cross will issue the scholarship to the
establishment of higher learning that the scholarship recipient
will be attending after high school. More information about the
criteria will be shared in the month of March.
Sac County Cattlemen’s Scholarships
The Sac County Cattlemen’s Association will be presenting
scholarships to graduating High School seniors who are residents
of Sac County, whose parents and/or themselves belong to the Sac
County Cattlemen’s Association (membership applications can be
picked up from your school counselor) and have been accepted to a
university, junior college, or vocational school for further
education. Acceptable areas of study include but are not limited
to: production agriculture, agribusiness, or related fields

Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Auxiliary would like to

Promoting educational opportunities in health-related fields is
