Ivan F. and Deloris M. Hunter Endowment Fund

All high school seniors in school districts of the following counties: Buena Vista, Calhoun, Greene, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster and Wright, and those centering their education on agriculture, soil conservation, and/or environmental studies are invited to apply for one of two $500.00 scholarships.  Application deadline – April 4, 2008.

Platinum Ethanol Scholarship

Hawkeye Renewables is excited to offer, in partnership with AFA (Agriculture Future Of America), a scholarship in the amount of  $3200 to one graduating senior who is pursuing a college career in agriculture or agriculture-related study.  In addition, the scholarship recipient will have registration fees paid to attend the annual AFA Leaders Conference.  See High School Guidance Office for an application.  Application Deadline – April 11, 2008

Iowa Pork Foundation President’s Scholarship

If you will be an incoming freshman in the fall of 2008, with plans to major in an ag related field with an emphasis on swine production, this scholarship is for you.  See High School Guidance Office for more details and applications.  Application deadline – April 30, 2008

DMACC/The Principal Financial Group School to Career Program

The innovative School-to-Career program offers career tracks in both technical and business fields.  Eligible students are guaranteed full-time employment at The Principal as an IT – Business Analyst I within the company’s information technology department, or a Client Service Assistant or individual investor specialist in the company’s Retirement and Investor Services department.    For more information and an online application, visit www.principal.com/dmacc

CHS Foundation Scholarships

High School students pursuing careers in the agricultural industry have the opportunity to earn on of 25  $1,000 scholarships thanks to a new program offered by the CHS Foundation, the major giving entity of CHS, an energy, grains and foods Fortune 200 company.  The new CHS Foundation High School Scholarship Program will recognize high school seniors – to help continue to build the next generation of leaders in production science, technology and business of agriculture.  Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who plan to study an agricultural-related major at a two-or four-year college.  Applicants must be from one of the following states:  Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin or Wyoming.  Students should visit www.chsfoundation.org for application forms and full details.  Application deadline is May 1, 2008.

 The William and Elsie Bandow Scholarship

This scholarship is given in the name of William and Elsie Bandow to 1.  A resident of Crawford, Carroll, Sac, Ida, Monona, Harrison or Shelby counties.  2.  Shows interest and attending, or desiring to attend any seminary for the purpose of becoming a pastor of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, and /or be interested in becoming a parochial school teacher in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.  In the event there are no qualified applicants as heretofore provided, the committee on selection shall then be empowered to provide these scholarships to any qualified person who desires to attend college.  The individual must be of good character and have grades that meet entrance standards at the institution of your choice. Charlie Burkart Scholarship

The Iowa section of the PGA annually awards a college scholarship in memory of Charlie Burhart, PGA member for 48 years and head professional at the Elmhearst Country Club in Cedar Rapids for 47 years.  Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, then on their academic ability and financial need. Balanced Man Program

The Balanced Man Scholarship is a scholarship that Sigma Phi Epsilon offers to incoming male freshmen at Iowa State University.  The scholarships will be awarded to the applicants who show the best overall aptitude in the areas that Sigma Phi Epsilon hold in regard: scholastics, community service and extra-curricular activities.  There is no obligation to join Sigma Phi Epsilon.  See High School Guidance Office for an application.  Application Deadline is July 2, 2008

Leo H. Grether Memorial Scholarship in Choral Music Education -

Students who are entering college to major in music education.  This $1,000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior in Iowa that meets the listed qualifications.  See High School Guidance Office for more information.  Application Deadline - April 15, 2006.

The Winter Dance Party Scholarship

This scholarship is commemorating the life and contributions of J.P. (Big Bopper) Richardson, Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, Roger Peterson and Darrel Hein.  Candidates must be enrolled in a college as music major, a graduating senior of an Iowa High School, and submit a one-page essay entitled: "Why I have chosen to major in music."  See High School Guidance Office for more information.  Application Deadline - April 15, 2008

Salon Professional Academy Scholarship

Open to students who have attended career-planning sessions at the Academy, completed application, high school transcript sent and completed a scholarship application.

2008 “Winner’s Circle” Scholarships

Many scholarships available to students who have been involved in 4-H and/or FFA livestock projects.  See High School Guidance Office for more information and applications   Application Deadline – June 1, 2008

North West REC Powerline Scholarship Program

This program is designed to assist persons enrolled in a course of powerline training at Northwest Iowa Community College, Sheldon.  A $500 scholarship will be awarded annually to an individual who has met the eligibility requirements.  To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria-

  • reside in the four-county area served by North West REC (Ida, Plymouth, O’Brien and Sioux counties)
  • be a member or child of a member of North West REC
  • be accepted as a full time student in the powerline program at Northwest Iowa Community College.
  • file a scholarship application with North West REC by April 11, 2008

Helen McKnight Scholarship by Horn Memorial Auxiliary

Helen McKnight Scholarship by Horn Memorial Auxiliary is a scholarship open to any student who will be entering the health profession and who would like to apply for the scholarship. See High School Guidance Office for more information.  Application Deadline - April 16, 2008.

Sigma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Scholarship

Our society is composed of women educators who promote excellence in education with the counties of Ida, Sac and Buena Vista.  They are offering a $150 scholarship to a female student pursuing a degree in education. .  See High School Guidance Office for more information.  Application Deadline: April 15, 2008

Loring Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship

Loring Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship is again available to a Sac County high school senior planning to go into a health related field.  See High School Guidance Office for application.   Application is also available on Loring Hospital’s website www.loringhopital.org  Application Deadline is April 15, 2008

Consumers Credit Union Scholarship

This scholarship is open to all high school students who are members of the Consumers Credit Union of Denison.  It is also open to students whose parents are members.  See High School Guidance Office for more information and applications.  Application deadline – April 15, 2008

The All Iowa Opportunity Scholarship

This scholarship is a state-funded program that provides scholarships to students who do well in high school and demonstrate financial need.  Priority for awards will be given to students who have participated in the federal TRIO (Educational Talent Search) programs while in high school, to applicants who graduate from alternative high schools or alternative high school programs and to homeless youth.  For more information go to http://www.iowacollegeaid.gov in the “In the Spotlight” box.   See High School Guidance Office for more information.   Application Deadline – May 1, 2008

Big Sun Scholarship

Professional Educators of Iowa 2008 Scholarships

Professional Educators of Iowa is pleased to announce the PEI-PEIF scholarship program for the year 2008 with over $10,000 in award money available.  Established to create an ongoing network of educational awareness for Iowa educators, the PEI foundation awards student and teacher academic scholarships by underwriting worthwhile educational endeavors.  Not all the scholarships are for education majors.  You may go to their website www.peiowa.org See High School Guidance Office for more information.  Application Deadline: April 1, 2008

Abbott & Fenner Business Consultant Scholarship

Abbott & Fenner are committed to continuing their efforts at helping those who have the desire and ambition to succeed. The winner(s) of this annual scholarship will receive their award within 2 weeks of the listed deadline.  All applicants should include their full name and mailing address with their submissions.  The A&F scholarships are available to all high school juniors and seniors as well as all currently registered in any secondary institution, between the ages of 16 and 30.

Procedure – to apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay on one of the two topics below.  Your submissions must be sent to us by email at schoalrhsips@abbottand fenner.com 

  • Discuss in less than 100 words, what you consider to be the single most important societal problem. Why?
  • How has your education contributed to who you are today or how will it effect who you will become? 
    In less than 1000 words, discuss this question.

North Star Community Credit Union 2008 High School Scholarship

The high school scholarship is open to any high school student, in Cherokee and Ida counties, and any adjoining counties, classified as a senior with a projected graduation date of 2008.  Entrants must have an account established in their name or the name of their parent or guardian and be a “member in good standing” at the credit union.  For more information see High School Guidance Office.  Application Deadline – April 5, 2008

Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship

Iowa State Bank & Trust Company is Trustee of the Pearl Hull Falk Trust that provides between 65-75 scholarships annually in the amount of $400.00 each to needy and worthy students attending the University of Iowa.  Each recipient of the Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship must be- of the Protestant faith, a resident of the State of Iowa and a full-time student at the University of Iowa.  See High School Guidance Office for more information.  Application Deadline – May 1, 2008.

The Quarton-McElroy.Iowa Broadcasters Association Broadcast Scholarships

Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Distinguished Scout Scholarship

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting has established the Emmett J. Doerr Memorial Distinguished Scout Scholarship to be awarded to three outstanding Catholic high school seniors who are Scouts in a BSA and continuing their education in college.

Basic requirements are – be a practicing Catholic, be a full-time senior, and earned an Eagle Scout or Gold Award.  For more information see High School Guidance Office.  Application Deadline – April 1, 2008
